Sponsored fun, run or serious timed event: 10km or half marathon: these route maps show they're all possible:
Route 1: excellent route with only twice 0.33 miles on main (Upwell) road.
Here's the Hereward Way alongside the river:
The only problem with this route as a timed event is this:
Easy to time the start for elite runners to arrive at the crossing after the southbound train. They'll be back across it before the next train.
Others may be held up. No problem if Network Rail can be persuaded to do track maintenance on race day!
Route 2 : 13.13 miles if returning to the school field : 13.46 miles to the church.
Return to church would be ideal BUT the final crossing of Wimblington Road makes it unrealistic. Unless the police would stop traffic for you!
Probably the best fit : Route 3 : the lower loop passing the airfield has been removed, replaced with a 2km loop around Stow Fen, returning back
up the bridleway.
All routed through Skylark Farm. Hopefully the field south of them is theirs and they'll give permission to cross it. If so they'd be a prime target as sponsor!
Shorter 10km routes:
If a Half Marathon is too much them these 10km (1/4 marathon) are alternatives:
Route 4 : Road running from the grain store to the Upwell Rd, although very little, if any, traffic. 'Dangerous' 123 yds on the Upwell Road can't be avoided.
Route 5 : entirely off road using the public bridleway to Eastwood End and the public byway to the Upwell Rd. With the single loop around Stow Fen 5.48 miles /8.77 km.
Add a second loop it becomes 6.6 miles/10.62 km which, with slight adjustment (i.e. bringing the turn-around point 0.6km closer), makes for a 10km run.
