1 - the original scan 2 - lift it with the 'curves' tool 3 - increase the contrast

4 - 'paint' back in the clouds from (1) using the 'history brush'
5 - add still more contrast for the lake
6 - finally put back the valley and clouds from (4) usng the  history brush'
